“I was quite nervous for this race as it was my first time racing in a Bundesliga. I had a good warm up and was trying to keep a positive mindset about enjoying the race and having fun with it.

The teams all got called out and then we lined up on our spots on the pontoon. When the gun when off I tried to have a fast first 150m so that I could get into the front group. However, when I looked up I noticed that from where our start positions were on the pontoon, we were quite far away from the front pack which was forming on the left side of the harbour, so I had to swim faster so that I could catch them up.

I made the front group, which had about 5 girls in it. The swim for me was quite good and I was happy that there wasn’t a lot of fighting. As we exited the swim we had to run up a big flight of stairs and run about 400m to transition. I found this quite hard as I was not use to running so far from the swim to T1.

The bike was technical, with a lot of corners and uneven sections of the road, which made it a really exciting course. There were still 5 girls in the group and we all shared the lead in hopes that we would stay away from the large chase pack behind us. Each lap we could see the group however it didn’t look like they were closing. This Made me feel a lot better as I felt a bit more relaxed as I knew I would only have to try stay away from them on the run.

We came into T2 with a 50 second lead on the chase group. Running is not my strong point so I was quite nervous going onto the run. I tried to stay with the group for as long as I c Ould but going into the second lap the group of 5 of us had already strung out. However I managed to hold onto 4th place which I was really happy. about.

Overall I really enjoyed the race, it was an awesome experience racing with so many girls and having such a large crowd there, it was definitely a difference experience than racing at home!”
